Just read through BIP-177. It’s currently proposed as an informational BIP—not a consensus-level Standards Track BIP—because it “doesn’t touch protocol rules.” But here’s my question for any devs or serious Bitcoiners out there: Shouldn’t a change that redefines the public unit of account—from 21 million Bitcoin to 2.1 quadrillion—be considered a consensus-level issue? This isn’t just a UI tweak. It changes the memetic structure, the way we express price, and the psychological model of scarcity. If it bypasses consensus and is implemented directly by wallet developers or exchanges, aren’t we placing Bitcoin’s most powerful narrative in the hands of UX designers, not node runners? Feels like the kind of thing that should be debated as a Standards Track BIP. I’d love to hear thoughts. Maybe I’m missing something.
