This Turing-machine breakthrough reduces the space required to simulate a computation:
O(t/\log t)\rightarrow O(\sqrt{t}\log t)
That is a major result—but it remains an optimisation inside the same computational representation. The machine still traverses the same symbolic problem; it simply stores the journey more efficiently.
ECAI targets a different layer of complexity.
It does not begin by asking how to compress the memory needed for search. It asks whether the search can be re-expressed as structure—with states connected through deterministic transformations, isogenies and independently verifiable transitions.
The distinction is fundamental:
Classical complexity: reduce the resources consumed while executing the computation.
ECAI complexity: reduce the computation created by the representation itself.
One improves the machine carrying the search.
The other attempts to change the geometry of what must be searched.
The real ECAI complexity claim is therefore not “less RAM.” It is that sufficiently structured problems may replace probabilistic exploration with constrained traversal and proof-carrying transitions.

It's encouraging to see more research recognizing that structure is the real substrate of intelligence.
