The last but not least is the table top! This is arguably the most important item when everything is completed.
I looked into various types of woods and their features and settled on American Black Walnut because of its gorgeous colour and durability. It also matches the wood used on the sides of the unit.
The table top will be around 30mm thick which is enough thickness and density to help block out any sound from the miner. The thickness helps with the aesthetics of the finished table and has enough strength to withstand my extra large cups of coffee 😅.
On the unfinished wood samples shown in the picture, I will be trying out some different finishes/protective coatings to see what works well on the wood. Keep in mind that I am totally new to all of this type of work so it's best to test finishes on sample wood to avoid ruining the final table. The wood is relatively expensive to other hardwoods so I do not want to fvck things up.

Sorting out the two power cables...
1) Cut some small holes in the mesh filter to let the power cables through.
2) Removed the material underneath where the clips go for better glue adhesion.
3) Glued two black clips to the inside of the cool air vent. Clips hold down the power cables securely and are easy to open and remove the cables.
4) Repainted areas around the clips
5) Run cables through and put the mesh filter back on

Next, I spent a bunch of time thinking about what I could do for the external vents that pull cool air in and let warm air out.
I was thinking that I could make something out of metal or wood that would slide in (like a custom vent). I also thought about fitting in some more heavy duty filters so it would act like an air purifier in some way.
However, I put all the complexity aside. Luckily I recalled that my friend who built a PC used some nice black magnetic filters. So I bought some of these black mesh filters and some magnetic strips to use on my unit.
1) I cut some of the felt off near the vent holes to make space for some magnetic strips.
2) After some of the felt was removed, I used a knife to score the wood behind it (better adhesion when gluing).
3) Cut the magnetic strips to size and glued them onto the sides of the vent.
4) Cut the mesh filters to the correct size and applied a magnetic strip to each side.
4) These filters easily just pop on and off and they look great especially with the orange light shining through. 🔆

1) Constructed a thick cover for the cool air section from the remaining sound absorbing materials. This was tricky to do because the shape had varying sides and lengths. Made it in a way that ensures a snug fit between the walls.
2) Next I spent a bunch of time researching what material I could use to cover all of the sound insulation material. Found some black fire retardant fabric which was very easy to cut and use. I ironed it first to get any unsightly creases out.
3) On the detachable piece I made (middle picture), I used epoxy to glue the fabric to the sound insulation material. The fabric along the walls is actually removable and not glued so that I can access the wiring if I need to change anything.
1) I did the same thing again for the warm air section. But this detachable piece is around x3 more thick than the piece I made before.

After applying the nice acoustic panels to the outside of the unit, I painted the gap between the panels and the top of the unit black. It's a small gap all the way round the unit, around 0.5cm.
I forgot to cover up the rubber on the top so there was some paint accidentally applied to it. I used some special wet wipes designed to remove wet paint.

The finishing outside walls have now been attached to the unit and the nice internal artwork (BTC white paper) has been added in.
I still need to:
1) make some small tweaks to the outside walls
2) put some filters on the outside vents
3) make the table top piece
4) and some other things when I remember
Starting to look good now! 😎
Might change my name to OrangePoW because the thing I'm making looks like a something now...
