Making something orange, take a look!
๐ Orange update! ๐
I cut some straight and angled pieces of foam for the cold air intake compartment. I used the straight piece of foam for the middle bit and glued the angled pieces of foam around it. Then I glued it to the foam wall in the main unit. It looks kinda cool, but the purpose of it is to help with noise reduction and help channel the air into the miner. ๐ค
I Fvked up cutting the straight piece of foam multiple times and had to redo it until I got it right.๐ก Main reason why I messed it up is because I used a thicker stanley knife which Fvked up the cuts. I resorted to using the smaller knife that I was using before and that resulted in a better finish.
I forgot to mention this. Before applying the glue, you need to cover the nearby areas that are not being glued otherwise you will get ugly glue stains on visible areas. Some tape and some cloth should be good. Also, you should wipe and vacuum the contact areas before gluing things down.
I'm not done with this compartment yet as I still need to add in the fans and some more angled foam. ๐ง
Stay tuned!

gm, orange update! (Cold air intake compartment)
Similar to the last post, but here I am working on the cold air intake section of the unit.
I sanded the wooden walls lightly with low grit sanding paper, wiped the surface. Cut some straight foam and angled foam to size and glued it down to the wooden walls. Foam used is dense and has a great fire safety rating (pricey stuff!).
Still more angled foam needs to be added + the extra fans + the electronics for the fans. Maybe some LED lights?
To be continued!

Orange update! (Middle compartment of the unit)
Picture 1๏ธโฃ: Added in a thin layer of foam which covers the rubber mat on the floor. This was then taped over a few times with foil tape.
Picture 2๏ธโฃ: Cut the thick angled foam walls with a stanley knife to size then glued it down. These also have a strong fire/heat resistance rating.
Picture 3๏ธโฃ: Cut the angled foam walls but added some strips to the vent for the cold air intake. The hole is just slightly smaller than the two miner fans.
Slowly getting there ๐ ๐ช

Time to add in the internal sound insulation / heat / fire resistant materials. ๐
Picture 1๏ธโฃ : I added in some very thick foam walls which are very dense and have the highest fire safety rating according to UK standards. Expensive? Yes, but required, because I don't want my house to burn down. ๐คฃ
Trying to cut these to size accurately was an absolute pain, most of the time was spent ensuring I have the correct measurements. I used sticky tape and square edge which worked as a guide during the cutting process. I used a stanley knife to cut the foam (four big pieces in total).
I tried to cut it as neatly as possible which involved slowly dragging the knife against the foam around 30 times (per side). Lots of patience is required to do this and is painfully boring. I usually listen to a podcast or music in the background which makes it less boring.
After cutting the four foam walls, I added some glue to the foam and the surface which it is stuck to. Because the glue dries within minutes you have to be very quick and very accurate to achieve a clean finish. I think it looks ok. ๐
Picture 2๏ธโฃ: After the foam walls were applied. I then cut the very dense rubber matt to size which is specially designed to absorb any vibrations. This was also cut with a stanley knife and then glued down.
Picture 3๏ธโฃ: On both vent walls, I applied another piece of foam which is roughly half as thick as the ones mentioned above. Both walls were then covered carefully with layers of foil tape to achieve a reasonably clean finish.

Orange update!
I forgot to mention. Any small internal gaps were filled using a special concoction of wood glue and wood filler material. ๐ฉน
