I don't know if that's true, but I remember the US doing some military exercises involving very small nuclear bombs and experimental coordinated maneuvers with infantry and armor for rolling trough the wasted "battlefield", and the infantry were equipped with radiation proof gear wich mafe them look immensely cool, but I can't quite find any photos
