Food for thought from Rothbard:
"This device of “nationalism” has only been successful, in Western civilization, in recent centuries; it was not too long ago that the mass of subjects regarded wars as irrelevant battles between various sets of nobles."

4000 years ago someone must have said: "Cool! I've made 1000 shells by investing in 10oz of gold."
Don't be that guy today.
What is Emerson talking about in this passage, and is he being too harsh on humanity?
"I believe man has been wronged; he has wronged himself. He has almost lost the light that can lead him back to his prerogatives.
Men are become of no account. Men in history, men in the world of to-day are bugs, are spawn, and are called “the mass” and “the herd.” In a century, in a millennium, one or two men; that is to say, one or two approximations to the right state of every man"

It seems to me that the vast majority of people I have around do not take their jobs seriously, yet their jobs are what allows them to build a life, namely pay for living expenses, maybe buy a house one day.
Why the disconnect? If your job is what sustains you, why perform it poorly?
Is this part of the fiat disease?
