The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) lunch subsidy program will officially end on Monday, July 1, 2025, transitioning to a Pay-As-You-Eat (PAYE) system. The government scrapped the subsidy, citing high costs and inefficiencies. Under the new system, soldiers will pay for their meals using cashless platforms like M-Pesa. The Ministry of Defence says the change will save billions of shillings and enhance service delivery. However, many junior officers have raised concerns about the added financial burden. image
