2023 was a great year overall, not just for bitcoin, but personally I accomplished a bunch of goals I had set, with the help of friends, family and fellow bitcoiners. Here’s to a great 2024 🦡 image

Best way to onboard family during the HODLdays? I’ve been using Blink, Beaver Bitcoin and haven’t yet been using Liquid but I plan to when Aqua comes out Jan 3!

Whatever you think about the Israel <> Hamas war, consider supporting fellow Palestinian Bitcoins who are on the ground in Gaza helping to feed innocent children affected by the war. For those who are concerned about publicly donating, we’ve KYC’d Yusef and made sure he’s not on any sanction lists. Otherwise you can anonymously donate by not logging in. He needs our support 🙏

I setup my friend with a 288,000 sat channel with Phoenix. The fees were $30 to set up the channel then splice more capacity 😅 The I switched her to Mutiny wallet and paid another $30 in fees 😅 She still has rhe 288,000 sats in Phoenix and now I feel like this phoenix seed is now worth $30 at least. What should we do with the Phoenix seed once she sends the sats to her Mutiny? Should we just chalk it up as a lesson learned or is that Phoenix seed / channel re-usable if we keep a small amount of sats in it?

Should I open this box topper? Probably not eh? Glad I got a box of bitcoin trading cards I can actually give out to people. The other boxes I bought I have not wanted to open them because I’m a hoarder. These are designed without the scarcity FOMO element, meant to be opened and distributed. Brilliant. image

My wife makes up a Christmas advent calendar for my daughter every year. This year she put a lindor chocolate ball in every door. Is it a big deal? I’m trying to teach my 13 yo daughter healthy habits and how to make better decisions for herself. In my opinion starting your day for 25 days in a row with 80 calories of sugar and saturated fat *on top* of the normal treats of a day is a bad idea. Should I put my foot down and replace the 25 lindor balls with something else or am I being a grinch? image

I posted something on Twitter 2 days ago about my local coffee shop accepting bitcoin via Blink with a link to her ln address (muggs@blink.sv) She started getting sats streamed in from all over the world and thought she was receiving someone else’s transactions. In 2 days she’s received $450 in gifts from Bitcoiners! 🙏 So very awesome as she’s always supporting local homeless people with free food and coffee, fundraisers and charity drives. She doesn’t have a lot of money as she poured everything into surviving the pandemic and keeping the business open during that period. She’s started to save in sats and this goes a long way to show her the power of Bitcoin. She also was extremely happy that the fees are minimal using Lightning compared to credit cards and interac.

Yesterday we held a Bitcoin meetup at a local cafe that I convinced to accept BTC in late 2021. We didn’t call it a Bitcoin meetup, we called it a financial session on inflation & investing. The idea was not to have a social bitcoiner meetup, but to bring friends/family to learn about the real causes of inflation, the risks to traditional markets and the opportunity in studying and saving in bitcoin. We got ~15 people out on a Monday evening in a small town. 2 teachers, 2 real estate investors, 2 fitness instructors, 2 local entrepreneurs, 2 construction workers, 4 bitcoiners and 2 artists. My friend and I decided to make a presentation sheet that we printed off and gave to all of the folks who came out. We discussed at a high level the “cost of conventional thinking” inspired by a recent Saylor piece. Here’s the presentation: I had been the only customer who paid in BTC for 2 years. The owner was impressed at the price movement of BTC as she watched her stack grow over the year. We made up a stack of lightsats.com tip cards with enough BTC for a few cups of coffee. The printable light sats cards are a great way to promote local businesses that support bitcoin. You should try it in your local area if you are so inclined to give away BTC, or if you can find a sponsor to sponsor the event with ~$200-$500 in free sats. The best thing about light sats cards is that when half of the people inevitably forget about the card and don’t claim the sats, they come back to your wallet after x days. This is a highly underutilized orange pilling tool. Half the people setup a Blink wallet at the cafe, claimed their sats and paid for a coffee over lightning. It was a great night where we focused more on high level conceptual financial literacy topics and didn’t delve so far into the activism side of things. The information was received very well as we didn’t get into libertarian views of small government, free speech issues, politics, etc. We tried to keep it cheerful & constructive as Saylor says.

Wow I haven’t really spent much time with the coldcard’s other features in the last few years, I just buy the coldcards and give them away. I am going through a @BTC Sessions tutorial now and it’s pretty incredible how many new features they’ve added including the seed vault to backup tapsigners. What a dandy device.

My mother-in-law’s vitals have stabilized. It’s been a long 2 weeks since she was admitted to the ICU. She is beating the odds so far, thanks primarily to her strength & resilience. No doubt the positive energy coming at her every day is a difference maker. She’s still unconscious with brief moments of awareness. Whether it’s from the family who are here every day talking to her positively, music that’s being created & played to her, nurses who are taking care of her with great empathy or Father Saunders from London who keeps coming to bless her and lift her spiritually, she can hear while in this state and it must be giving her strength. Thanks to LukeDashJr for the connection to Father Saunders, I am not a super religious person - but the odds of her surviving 13 days ago when she entering the ICU were about 15%. Luke told me not to get my hopes up, but the extreme unction could have healing powers. I’m sure it helped. She is looking better but we are not out of the woods yet. It can take up to 50 days for stem cell engraftment. We are at day 26. Yesterday she was moved to another room in the ICU, a healing room with a big window and a beautiful view. This big red tree is what she has a view of when she opens her eyes once or twice a day. I’m sure that gives her hope. Today when we were visiting, she had a squirrel perched right at the window watching over her. We have faith she’s going to continue beating the odds as we continually see things move baby steps in the right direction. It’s been a very rough month and especially the last 2 weeks have been taxing. My 13 year old daughter is pretty sad at times, I try to keep her busy or let her go on screens and play games to distract her. Any suggestions for how to help my daughter process this would be very much appreciated.

Is anyone working on building a GPT? I keep running into errors after I upload documents. I really wish I had a teacher to explain to me how to do it properly.
