Fun fact, my husband's cousin is a former Miss Finland and is currently receiving hate messages because people are confusing her with the other Miss Finland who is currently causing a big scandal in the news ๐
Today there was an Anglican carol service in Helsinki cathedral, so I went there together with my session friend
It felt lovely to sing the familiar favourites again
And the Senate Square looked beautiful, despite the weather โช๏ธ๐
Today has brought back memories of last year's Independence Day, which was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
At the time, my son was 2, and as toddler parents, we didn't get out much, so I was really looking forward to going to our friend's for dinner. This friend is a professional chef and a wonderful host, and had last had us round about five years ago, so it was long overdue. It was going to be quite a big gathering.
The weather that day was frightful and we travelled about two hours across town through slow-moving traffic and blizzards after dark. On arriving, everything was grand. A beautifully decorated table, good company, a drink and a nibble in hand, and I was just so happy to be there.
15 minutes in, my husband informed me that our son had had an accident of the runny variety. My son was already potty-trained at this point, so this meant a change of trousers. And since he'd shown no sign of being unwell until this moment, we only had one spare pair. I was still hoping it was a one-off (because sometimes it is). But 10 minutes later, the spare trousers went the same way as the first.
So we had to bundle him naked into his winter overall, put him in the car, say goodbye to all the people we'd just said hello to, and drive home. Of course my son couldn't make it that long, and the winter overall had to go in the wash with everything else when we got home. ๐ซ
By that time, it was so late we had no time to cook anything, so it was frozen pizzas for dinner. I was absolutely gutted and devastated, and to be honest, I'm still not quite over it ๐
I'm pretty sure it's a universal law that all parents go through something like this at least once, and it must be at the most inconvenient time...
