Even when he was imprisoned, his cell was often left unlocked. He was back on the streets on work release after 3.5 months of an 18 month sentence. Pretty clear that everything was arranged to be treated like NBD. 2. Epstein was a billionaire and a known benefactor of many initiatives. His status among the elite barely suffered, and among those who overlapped his interests and sought funding, he was known to be generous. 3. Money + Systemic legal system failures = major incentive to not ask a lot of questions. It's not notable that Epstein continued to network extensively. It would actually be notable if ANYONE stood up and said "Hey isn't this guy the one who got pinched for child prostitution?" Do I need to cite Milgram to explain how this works psychologically?
