New convo with Robin Hanson and Jann Tallin on "pausing" training of large language model artificial intelligence. Special hat tip to @Guy Swann for alerting me to the emergence of open source AI, a topic which yielded an enlightening exchange.

Good video. I love cathedral vs. bazaar analogy for Bluesky vs Nostr. My non-technical view of this is that Bluesky might have a quicker early growth spurt because it feels more familiar to Twitter refugees, but Nostr has the longterm advantage because it attracts more people who are here specifically FOR THE DECENTRALIZATION and not because they hate Elon Musk or whatever. I don’t think Twitter is going anywhere anytime soon. It will likely remain a big, influential network unless and until someone removes Elon from leadership and tanks the company or he simply loses interest and lets the censorship blob take control again or the state goes full-on authoritarian against the social media companies (all possible). As long as Twitter remains dominant, it seems like it’s going to be hard for what at the moment looks and acts like a Twitter clone with fewer users to compete. Nostr, on the other hand, has a totally different feel because it’s built by and for people who want to resist control and surveillance, which is ultimately the point of cryptography and decentralization.

Are you scared of AI? Think it's time to hit the ol' PAUSE button? I'll be hosting a debate/discussion about the proposed AI "pause" with Robin Hanson and Jaan Tallin of Skype/Kazaa fame this Thursday at 1pm ET if you're interested.

I’m no VC, but I feel like handing $500k to a pseudonymous Twitter socialist to raise awareness about money printing might not be the most sound allocation of capital.

Remember that time bitcoin was the only money that didn't get totally frozen out by the Canadian government on its way to the troublesome truckers? I remember.

Posting on here and making a bunch of dumb formatting errors and not being able to delete my mistakes gives me real insight into the 2010s boomer social media experience.
