In 2020 the UN ran a poll to find out what people think of climate change and these are the questions they asked. What would happen if they asked the people choosing 2A if they would support doing everything as urgently as possible if it meant that the bottom 75% of income earners would never be able to afford to buy a home or a car? For 3C, would you support that if it meant you couldn’t afford to heat your home? For 6A, would you support that if it meant that meat and dairy products would be made illegal and the bottom 75% of income earners would be required to eat bugs as their primary source of protein? Curiously, they only asked leading questions designed to elicit responses they approve of. They even say that responses they don’t like are evidence they need to do more “education”. Most people “trapped” in poverty seek this sort of sentiment to confirm their beliefs that it is hopeless to even try. They surround themselves with people who believe this and reject anyone who tries to tell them they aren’t actually trapped because believing there is hope would require them to take responsibility for their situation and do something about it. The problem today is that this hopelessness is being weaponized into the envy that drives communists. We used to reject that sort of mass envy as a culture and now the dominant cultural forces encourage it.

If you build tech that claims to guarantee freedom you will have to tolerate people you vehemently disagree with. They are incapable of that and that’s why I love that most of them despise bitcoin.
