Fiscal responsibility That big TV is on sale half off at $500. You put it on a credit card and pay small monthly amounts plus the 28% interest. In 20 years you have paid a lot more than the $500. Several times more. The TV was dead in 5 years and now you are still paying for it and the replacements and interest. You did not save $500. You spent a lot more. This is the lie you tell yourself to get what you want now. If you can not afford the $1000 TV outright, you can not afford the debt to get it. Save while you are able so as to have when you can not.
