Interesting that the wealthiest people seem to self actualise by being philanthropists. Socialists tend to deny this, but likely the genuinely poor and unfortunate would be better cared for if society became more capitalist.

People criticize nostr:nprofile1qqsw3znfr6vdnxrujezjrhlkqqjlvpcqx79ys7gcph9mkjjsy7zsgygpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqzynhwden5te0danxvcmgv95kutnsw43qw98s96 and Coinkite for the wrong things. The biggest issue is that when you have to buy from the UK they throw you to the wolves of FedEx who always hold up the shipment but are unreachable, and if you do resolve it you have to give so many personal details you may as well just use Coinbase.

Interesting side effect of using LLMs: I now tend to be a bit more demanding with junior employees to iterate and get things right because I'm used to doing it with Claude or Gemini. (As an aside, I have to use these services for work, but use free OpenAI for random low risk questions, and then use Maple AI for everything else in my personal life)

The original intent of mass schooling in the 18th century was as a means of socialization and creating a sense of national unity. Literacy and numeracy skills were a secondary consideration, but for the purposes of creating a more capable workforce. People talk about teaching kids how to think etc, but not clear to me that's the case at all or that anything has changed in the last 200+ years. Tbh, I don't really think the home schooling option is right for our family either, but thankfully my Bitcoin savings means we'll be able to afford private schools - still not ideal, but in the UK the difference is stark. When I toured one of the "outstanding" local state schools the halls were full of propaganda about climate change, islamophobia and LGBTQ+ rights. The academic results were not even that great, but that's not the most important assessment criteria for state school ratings. At least with private schools there is more choice, and kids and parents are better selected for not wanting the state to educate their children.

Think I'm just a very boring middle class tech worker who likes to read William Boyd novels, but also likes Bitcoin and hates the government. Tbh, would be great if I didn't have to be the second half of that sentence, but that's reality!

If Israel had no guarantee of US military support (made possible by the money printer), I wonder if they maybe would have tried harder to just be cool and friendly to their neighbours

Kind of interesting that UK headlines today are "MI6 appoints new chief" when it's actually the (sort of) democratically elected Foreign Secretary who appoints them, subject to confirmation by the Prime Minister. A government department shouldn't be able to name its own leader. Almost makes you wonder whether the headlines' phrasing is partially true ...

Right leaning "common sense" commentators need to up their game. Both Tom Woods, and now Konstantin Kisin have demonstrated a very uncritical approach to their interviews lately - ranging from South Africa to parenting. They just agree with whatever the guest is saying so long as it vaguely fits the pattern of "mainstream is wrong" or "elites have an ulterior motive". Part of the problem is preparation. They don't do any major research beforehand, but just want to churn out many low quality conversations. For ads maybe? More men's vitamins etc.
