This is one of the main reasons I expect deflation to happen unless there's QE and low rates again here in the UK. Natural gas prices were the biggest system shock in 2022 driving the "cost of living crisis" and sending UK energy companies into bankruptcy. It literally went up 1000%. But now we're heading towards historic lows - both a sign that production costs of goods will come down, but also partly shows that demand for energy is decreasing (although bigger driver seems to be a supply glut despite Ukraine war). image

Always has been "Dionysius abused his office to artifice an impending famine in Rome by deliberately withholding the grain reserves. This led to a revolt in the Circus Maximus during a horse race, when the crowd was convinced that Cleander was responsible for the lack of food, who then marched to where the emperor Commodus was. To appease the crowd, he had Cleander and his son executed."

People react to privacy the same way they did to COVID vaccinnes. If you took the vaccine you were invested in justifying your decision, and some even pushed for everyone to do the same as them - they wouldn't hear the other side of the debate. We're the same with KYC Bitcoin, GMail accounts, iPhones and bank cards. It's tempting to downplay the risks if you've already been cucked (I have). Best time to start learning about the risks and changing your set up was years ago, second best time is today.

so will it matter when Bitcoin is a trillion dollar asset again? I remember Willy Woo talking this up last cycle like it was going to be the new floor ๐Ÿ˜…

Regardless of the issue here (I agree with the stance) it's egregious that UK newspapers openly advertise that they campaign for anything. You think they don't also do this for other political or financial positions? image

The problem with Balaji is that he's an excellent bullshitter. I just eat up everything he says about the media, politics, macro because it resonates with my biases. But as soon as he starts talking about something I have a deeper nuts & bolts understanding of, like decentralisation of Bitcoin, it's ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ

I browse the front pages of physical British newspapers each morning just to see what we're all supposed to be caring about. My main takeaway each day is how full of shit politicians are, and how much that's embraced by journalists to get engagement. Utter nonsense mostly, with worrying tidbits that increase my prior about WW3.

Concerning to see all the recent seeding of the idea that the UK needs more weapons and/or conscription in order to fight Russia. Makes me reflect on what I would have done in previous UK wars with conscription. Probably would have been able to get behind the idea of fighting for the allies in WW2, but assuming I had the full context in WW1 I would feel justified objecting or going into exile with my family. Likewise with Russia in 2024 - they don't pose a realistic threat to us in the UK.

Been trying to eat more animal-based food the last few weeks. Have been fairly low carb the last 12 years after first listening to and reading Gary Taubes, but now experimenting with even less plant food (even high fat ones). Main observations so far: - Wife resents how I've complicated meal planning ๐Ÿ˜… - I smoke up the house once a day and it's not going down well with the family (but I've bought myself a mini outdoor grill, and learned about cold searing steak too so hopefully this won't be so bad anymore) - Friends I tell think I'm an internet meme and also an eco-villain - Ribeye is bloody expensive - I need to somehow source some cheaper meat - I spend a lot of time watching steak and pork belly videos on YouTube But I sort of maybe feel a bit healthier ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

New Primal Android app is almost perfect, but: - still buggy - being able to @ people only sometimes works - one click zapping doesn't work, have to press and hold and use one of the silly presets - feed refreshing doesn't always work - have to reopen app a few times - inline media not as good as Amethyst - no conversation view Bullish though since these are all extremely solvable problems, and it's already great. Some issues may just be my setup with #grapheneos

ah man, this WBD Rizzo interview is so tiresome - the amount of sophistry is incredible, his arguments are such slippery half truths made with full confidence. Quite disappointed with him.

City residents in Berkeley started installing benches at bus stops because the government is too incompetent. Government then tries to discourage it saying the benches could be unsafe, and asking people to use official channels to request benches. People tried the supposed official channel and got referred to another channel that didn't work. Yet another datapoint that we usually don't need government, and all they really do is waste taxpayer money on bureaucracy.

Realized that I don't mind following rules. I just can't when they're unjust, stupid, inconsistent or arbitrarily changed. I think this is part of why Bitcoin appeals to people with both conservative (like rules) and liberal (dislike injustice) predilections.

Potentially positive dynamic of Bitcoin ETFs is that providers are incetivised by management fees and NOT trading. This means they have an incentive to rather direct people to a product they will stay in and not shift around to shitcoin ETFs. I'm sure they'll still offer shitcoin ETFs, but it will be an entirely different dynamic vs. the "shitcoin casinos" like Binance.
