You don't get solar/wind to help the planet... you get them to gain independent energy production. You don't get an electric car to reduce emissions... you get one because you want emancipation from the fuel supply chain and you would also like a backup battery for your house. You don't get mini splits and a wood stove to end your carbon emissions, you do it because you want to control your home climate without being beholden to energy companies. You don't grow crops and hunt/raise meat because it's healthier... You do it because you want food security. The fact that every one of these saves money is a product of proactively doing the best thing for systemic independence. If you want to escape the system, you need to escape all of it and be able to in interact with it only when YOU CHOOSE. The prices will continue to rise faster. When China runs out of food within the decade and the energy supply contracts in 5-7 years because Russia doesn't know how to keep their oil fields going, will you be stuck holding the bag for the increase in food and energy prices? The (underreported) price inflation happening now has only just begun. Prepare for the coming storm before it arrives. Don't forget that you will need ammo to hunt/protect your prescient investments. They can't foreclose on all the homes when nobody can pay their mortgage. Just don't be in the first ~50% to stop paying on debt.
A "good" religious person tithes 10% of their income to the church. If we tithed 10% of computing resources solely to maintain privacy, it would be practically unbreakable for all of time. As processing power grows, so too would privacy system complexities.
I'm all for rejecting manipulative, crooked, and shotty science, but when shit hits the fan, how certain are you that you'll still be able to get fossil fuels? Build your own electric grid if you want to continue to use it. Generate, store, and conserve energy. The grid should be a tool, not a necessity. Until we get about halfway there in a given area, decentralized grids aren't going to happen.
Paid private relays, but they include decentralized internet forwarding to increase speed of service.
Global depression = widespread primary crypto adoption and the death of old money.
Visualizing energy storage: It takes about 1 kWh to lift an 8ft cube of water by 1m, assuming 100% efficiency.
Glutathione/sulfate/methionine deficiency is responsible for autism. Glutathione declines with age. Methionine is the precursor to Glutathione & Sulfate. Artificial sweeteners harm your gut microbiome balance, affecting bacterial inputs and outputs like ammonia and, yup, Methionine. Socialism has the economic calculation problem, making capitalism and adaptive pricing the superior system. Some will get burned on capitalist endeavors, just as some will get burned using modern chemical advances. Using (especially ingesting) a human - invented compound, untested by natural selection and evolution's long timeline, is no more or less dangerous than starting a business. DYOR and don't open a bar or restaurant (don't ingest a compound that's been shown to be more harmful than good). Organic is the fallback natural state of food. Anarcho-capitalism is the same of politico-economic interaction. Analogy's strong.
If you want to get shit done, surrender to yourself. You'll never reach the end of the list when it comes to taking action for your own personal growth and benefit. Let your past self be your scripture, let your future self be your master, and your present self slave to it. Expectations of the world should approach 0 while aspirations approach infinity. Time is the limiting factor. The worst thing you can do is flip the past and future's roles and become a slave to something you can't change while trying to adapt the future to fit your mold. Expectations approach infinity while aspirations approach zero. Selfishness breeds laziness breeds dysphoria breeds every other problem we face.
I've been doing it wrong this whole time. Trying to code with the noise cancelling headphones on wasn't working, regardless of what was playing. Silence becoming less of an option by the day, I needed to find something that worked. White noise, brown noise, lofi, ambient, binaural beats, chill, chillstep, dnb, hardstyle, classic rock, classical... All duds. Metal. Only metal works. I never knew I coded better angry, but here we are and I'm cruising with productive fire. Feel like I just defeated a boss, next level!
As far back as I've known, youth has been the indicator of what's next in tech. I remember AOL IM, and text messaging in high school. I remember the social media boom after web 2.0 showed up during my college years. Then I watched (as my back started hurting more) as privacy apps came and went like J Lo's relationships. Then content ownership came into play and Onlyfans and the like took the free media from the big sites and rewarded the content creator. This is all a vast oversimplification, but the point I'm getting to is: What year will teenage girls be asking for RasbPi4's for Christmas, en masse? This year? Next? Idk, I'm no Miles Davis these days.
The local gig economy, but with reputation-ranked avatarized identity and payment is strictly XMR. Needs a strong sublayer of regular local crypto economy to exist, but once the lay can earn outside of government eyes, the whole pyramid scheme gets exposed. Get in or get fucked.
The brilliant will create fear within the government using guerilla tech. The government will indiscriminately apply force to all to ensure their stranglehold remains. The less brilliant, but no less morally guided, people will fight back. Probably from the right. The opposition will become more authoritarian. Probably from the left. Evolved tech causes an evolution in control techniques. Crazy measures are taken, from nat up onal firewalls to the neo-gestapo kicking in doors for wrong-speak. Tech savvy people start taking on cover jobs as fast food workers and grocery clerks. The government uses terrorism and war to manufacture consent for further despotism. It all stops with a white flash or the fall of institutions. I tend to believe the latter. This only transpires if the means connectivity are decentralized. Neighborhood relays? Guerilla Internet.
NOSTR works not because it is possible, but because it has user friendly clients that can make the tech accessible to all.
Ethics test: You've started earning entirely in XMR and using 3rd party payments on your expenses. You've torn down the local government and gotten rid of property taxes. You've built gated communities that maintain the polymerized dirt paved roads on a donation basis. You're essentially invisible to the government except where you choose not to be. Do you start signing up for government benefits to accelerate the collapse or let it do so in its own time? Which is a better short and long term strategy? Personally? Societally?
If you want to upend the (Chinese) authoritarian regime, just start getting activated Starlink antennae into the country. Couple it with intuitive, user friendly software, like the Umbrel OS preloaded on raspberry Pi's and put it the hands of the (moderately) technically-capable. As the Great Firewall of China is bypassed, the people will take care of the problem itself. Way cheaper than using a military industrial complex solution and 100% more ethical, to boot. Freedom is spread by spreading freedom, not bombs. New paradigm. Could actually be crowdfunded and executed as a guerilla strategy by ordinary people. Your government is more useless than it was yesterday. Will lose power to knowledge daily, ad infinitum.
When everyone has their own server, the cell phone becomes a much thinner client. Next stage is eloquently decentralizing internet connectivity and the electrical grid.
Spray, mix, and compact liquid polymer pavement solved "muh roads" for less money and better for the environment. I kind of like the stablized dirt aesthetic, it feels old world. 22¢/sqft for residential keeps costs low enough to make gated community association funding donation-based. 82¢/sqft makes heavy vehicle bearing main roads cheap enough to conduct tolls on a regional basis. That leaves interstate tolls, which already happen anyhow. Proving once again, the problem is not the cost, but the lack of competition and narrow perception of the world.
