All is permitted, nothing is forgiven.
Easy sheet-pan chicken thighs marinated in mustard, thyme, lemon zest, garlic, and olive oil for Sunday/weeknight dinner #foodstr #cookstr image
Every so often the “Nostr is dead” discourse picks back up, and this time around I found more active users engaging with me just as that’s happened/happening. I’ve also made an effort to find more of said active accounts to follow. Maybe the protocol self-selects for anti-fragile users that will contribute effort in reverse proportion to protocol growth? Just a theory :)
Went on a five-day camping trip with my dad to the Adirondack Mountains a week ago. My dad is an avid outdoorsman and hunter to say the least, and our trips are always intense but rewarding. On this trip, we each hauled pretty heavy bags with all the gear, rowed a canoe across a lake for nearly 2h, then through beaver ponds (and over dams!), then carried said canoe on land to the lake where stayed and made camp. Said lake is pretty magical, it’s alpine, never crowded (see above journey just to get there, no roads), and the spot we stay even has sand and freshwater clams right by the shore (which we cooked and ate). Caught some bass and cooked em over the campfire too, 10/10
Bit of a twist in the garden plot (pun intended), it was not deer that dined on the parsley and dill. It was this cute but mischevious fucker, and he came back for seconds. For the inside plot, we’ll just remember to close the door from now on 🙃, not sure for the outside yet, but we’re a hunting family so he better watch out…
GM, Paid a visit to the garden for Father’s Day (happy father’s day to all dads of Nostr). Everything’s going pretty strong but some deer got into the yard and dined on the dill and parsley. Pictured: remains of parsley & dill, basil, chive, tomatoes, baby cucumber, unripe tomatoes, and grapes.
Haven’t been cooking much lately but here I am back at it. Just seared chicken cutlet and an easy salad dressed w olive oil and lemon. I think I gotta start adding the pepper flakes in later for the chicken 😅 #foodstr image
As an American who is fairly politically-informed, it’s shocking to watch how the dealings with Iran have evolved in the past days. Trump’s vascilations aside for the moment, tensions with Iran have been stoked in this country for decades. Events since Oct 7th exposed the depth of corruption in our government, particularly of the kind caused and exploited by Israel. Political commentary focuses on America’s crumbling empire so regularly that it’s difficult and strange to imagine the admin making a rational choice, on this and increasingly any subject. Nonetheless we have a memorandum of understanding and political messaging that contradicts the propaganda against Iran and paves the way for an exit, no matter how humiliating, from a conflict that only costs us while benefitting a country that has thoroughly corrupted and misled our admin and entire political class. Believing that we’ll follow through on what this new direction requires may be much too credulous (this is the same admin that killed negotiators with bombs the day before negotiations), but considering the form up until now, it’s promising as a start. Western democracies seem to be deteriorating as a whole, much has been made of Trump/populism being a symptom of that decline. Liberty and popular coercion of the political class, as indicators of democracy, certainly support that assessment. I wouldn’t be writing this or considering political events if I were as cynical of government as many on Nostr tend to be, so I suppose this post is meant as a marker of a moment where the trend inflected just a bit.
GM, Had a little boat day yesterday, caught 7 sharks or so (small ones), a stingray, and this here small fish. All released bc we were going for striper but no luck lol. Was still nice to be out on the water!
Garden update: another row has been added for increased tomato output. Pictured: tomatoes, basil, dill, parsley, chive, cucumbers, peppers, and mint. Not pictured: grape vines. Also, bonus flower
