My resting heart rate is sub 50 bpm. I learned to slow my heart rate through controlled breath when enduring physical strain and I think that is why my RHR is low. See if you can slow your heart rate when it becomes elevated by taking a sharp inhale through the nose and exhaling long, slow, and completely through the mouth or nose. 5 cycles and your heart rate should be back to normal. I monitor my heart rate without any devices, just by feel and counting. No need to complicate it. You will notice you can attain this skill easily. The heart should be like a big cat hunting in the savannah: capable of chasing and pouncing in bursts. Not constantly running hot.
