I was nervous about this compost pile because the soiled chicken bedding I got from a friend was way more carbon heavy than the smell let on. However after just flipping it I see it’s teeming with life. Although it may be colder than an 18 day pile I have a feeling it will turn out to be some great compost. #grownostr #homesteading #regeneration #permaculture #biodiversity

Today I found a Giant sabre comb horn cranefly in my yard near a compost pile that is very woody and being left to age. I use an app called picture insect to identify any unknown insects I find on my property and learn more about there role in my ecosystem. This Giant Sabre comb horn cranefly aids in the detrital decomposition process and feeds on rotting wood as well as fungus, so it makes sense that I found an adult near the aging compost. #grownostr #homesteading #regeneration #theprodigalsonfarm image

Thought I was cheating the system by buying food plot seed mix instead of ordering cover crop seed mix online. I completely failed to realize I was buying 4.5lbs of seed with a seeding rate of 18lbs per acre instead of 10lbs of seed with a seeding rate of 60lbs per acre. Needless to say my cover crop will not cover my whole 1/6 acre garden this fall. Check your seeding rates folks. #grownostr #homesteading #covercrop #gardening

This is truly wild. Nothing is better for our planet than properly managed and stewarded ruminants grazing. I recommend everybody look into what the guys at carbon cowboys are doing and studying as well as people like John kempf from the regenerative agriculture podcast. View quoted note →

I’ve been mainly focusing on building healthy soil with diverse microorganisms and high organic matter to facilitate good soil aggregation and water and nutrient holding capacities. I figure once the soil is there then nostr will have no problem growing on its own View quoted note →
