“There are much more subtle aspects of human reasoning, that the typical person on the street doesn't even recognize, but the highly trained cognitive scientist is well aware of, and we're finding those in the LLMs.” Thoughts from Chandra Sripada on How LLMs and Humans are Cognitive Cousins on The Mindscape podcast

‘We know how to assess how well someone can write an essay or follow a set of rules. But how do we assess the quality of the questions they ask? The ability to formulate the right question may become more valuable than the ability to produce the right answer. Our methods of education and assessment need to evolve to measure curiosity, reasoning, and the ability to ask better questions.’ Thoughts inspired by Mindscape, with guest Stuart Firestein, Ph.D. in Neurobiology.

The Golden Rule is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Widespread technology can stretch this further: Treat any one person as you would want to be treated, while accounting for how that action affects the larger system.

People are not purely selfish. When their contribution is visible, the cost is low, and the group feels like their own, many will share willingly. Force is often unnecessary. Look at churches and well-run neighbourhoods. Humans cooperate best when identity and incentives align.

The system has commoditized the utility of public goods for private agendas. Nothing it creates lasts longer than a generation or two. The same cannot be said of what is forged by sweat and blood, the free trade of labor, and the open exchange of ideas.

Harsh Truth The pass standards for Mathematics and Science in schools have been deliberately kept low, a direct result of chronic underinvestment in public education infrastructure and political pressure for higher throughput numbers. As a result, large numbers of students arrive at tertiary institutions only to fail, because universities have largely refused to dilute their own academic requirements to the same degree. This gap between school-level certification and actual readiness creates deep frustration. That frustration is a real and significant driver behind the riots and the broader lashing out at a system that first lied to them, then punished them for believing the lie.

If you are spiritual and a believer, then you understand that things may get very hard before they get better. There will be pain. There will be suffering. There will be loss. But there will also be hope, endurance, and redemption. It is written.

“When are people going to stop trying to claim that things are impossible to understand? When are they going to learn? That's just never a strategy for long-term success. The trick is never to say anything is impossible to understand, but also never to guess how we're going to understand it.” - Prof Sean M. Carroll ❤️

Journal Entry 2026/08/18 Synchronicity Yesterday I shared my future plans to engineer a administrative clinical workflow with minimal human intervention to improve clinical and patient experience. Coincidentally, last night my Computer Network lecturer shared this exact problem with the class. image

LLMs are excellent at generating virtually any document, from templates to tailored content.
