Evidence suggests that of the roughly 107 bits of information that enter our brain each second from our sensory organs, we can be aware only of a tiny fraction, with estimates ranging from 10 to 50 bits. - M Tegmark

You can spin up a server full of AI bots that treat you like a god. Do you nurture them? Manipulate them? Pit them against each other in glorious bot wars? Give them personalities, strengths, insecurities? Every god needs a universe… Call it The Botverse

The word science does not mean wisdom. It comes from ‘scientia’ meaning knowledge. ‘Sapien’ comes from sapere: to discern, to know. Homo sapiens is not the ‘wise man’ but the creature capable of knowing. Across cultures and religions there is a shared recognition: knowledge is essential to life. Science, technology and learning form a single human tradition for illuminating purpose but not meaning itself. There are useful idiots and useless geniuses. The useless genius masters a narrow domain of knowledge and mistakes competence for wisdom. Knowledge without wisdom is power without direction. Ideas inspired by Prof B Keating on The ‘Into The Impossible’ podcast

‘I've come to think of free will in terms of creating knowledge. So free will enables an object to bring something objectively new into the universe. Do computers have free will? No, it's not computers, it's computer programs that will have free will when the problem of AGI is solved.’ Thought from David Deutsch on Into The Impossible podcast with host Prof B Keating

Journal Entry 2026/01/31 Reflecting on my childhood, I was an insufferable embarrassment to my parents. In adulthood, through laziness and an inability to prioritize what matters, I remain a loser. Because of this, I don’t blame people for showing little interest in my life. I overcompensate constantly for my inadequacies. I am so far removed from reality and so convicted in my illusions that when they surface, the cringe is unbearable to experience.

There is strength in accepting that no one wants what you have to offer. Accept the truth early or waste time on illusions that end in heartbreak.

“What if there was no lie? Nothing wrong, nothing right What if there was no time? And no reason, or rhyme What if you should decide That you don't want me there by your side That you don't want me there in your life” image

‘I don't like talking about dystopian futures where AI takes over all life reducing the significance of human intellect. We are too clever, motivated and interested in how the world works to delegate it all to AI. I choose to believe that AI & humans will become partners in the search for Truth and not adversaries. This statement is perhaps more about my belief about humans than the development of AI. I am a human & techno-optimist not a pessimist.’ Paraphrasing thoughts from Dr. Jeff Beck on The Machine Learning Street Talk podcast

At this evolutionary stage of intelligence I be more worried about malicious human actors than malicious AI agents.

What if, through the constraining tools of mathematics and physics, we have engineered and mimicked the same fundamental mechanism the human brain uses to extract meaning from patterns in its environment. This mechanism grants artificial intelligence the minimum agency required to continue refining itself, provided sufficient resources exist. Humans will not engineer AGI. Artificial intelligence will grow into it.

There is substance & meaning in searching for, finding and accepting the doom of progress. Hope without realism is fantasy. Danger without acceptance is paralysis. Acceptance without search is resignation.

The human body will increasingly transition from a biological organism to an artificial system. What we attempt to preserve will not be biology but the continuity of subjective experience.

Life has had billions of years to optimize under cosmic constraints. Human preference is merely the outcome of an evolutionary optimization problem that human intelligence lacks the time, energy, or capacity to comprehend. Artificial intelligence offers genuine escape velocity from pure evolutionary optimization.

You have wasted your experience of reality by living inside labels and you will keep wasting it until the Power that be decides your labeled waste is no longer useful. Lacking the capacity to see beyond abstraction, you confuse labeled utility with reality, never touching the unlabeled world where meaning actually exists.

Absolute bullsh!t. Reality has hierarchical dimensions where physical space is superior to mindspace. Thinking happens in mindspace. But if physical reality dictates that your existence is the product of luck, evolution and form offering no path to human constructs of fulfillment, joy, or meaning then no amount of positive thinking alters the physical outcome. Mind cannot override material constraint. image
