Bitcoin is a monetary network. If you read ‘The Bitcoin Standard’ from Saifedean Ammous’, he is talking about Bitcoin compared to other forms of money. Bitcoin should not be only a technical object, where everything which is possible could be done without control. Especially, Bitcoin is not a distributed database where spammers can use any kind of data without control. OP_RETURN should act as a strong filter. I stopped running my Bitcoin Core because this team has another view on that: new form of spam or digital art or whatever stored in the Bitcoin block chain is for them a free innovation: I disagree, for a sound money, it’s loss of control, and in the long run, loss of value. I am now running Bitcoin Knots 🪢 to check the Bitcoin blocks and prevent the chain from becoming a free definitive storage for all the unsolicited ‘creation’ of spammers.
