I relented a bit. We’re up to 250 lines of code now with some stupid sexy CSS applied. I’m conflicted if I like this or the prior version better. View quoted note →
and created meepmeep.
Meepmeep is less than 200 lines of HTML and Javascript code for a read only quick and dirty (clean?) HTML #nostr kind 1 client.

My goal is to have this be super lightweight and uncensorable so that it can run on the most amount of devices - and ultimately provide a communications channel/broadcast for those in need (for whatever reason).
Investing substantial time and energy in organically cultivating an audience through authentic and thought-provoking content may seem worthwhile - UNTIL a centralized authority abruptly decides to revoke your access and content in an instant.
This scenario is unfortunately beyond your control in most traditional platforms and social media that most of us use today.
This is where Nostr stands apart. It offers a unique resilience and redundancy. Even if all other users and relays were to depart, I still retain the capability to operate my own relay, publish notes, and distribute a client to ensure content remains visible to users.

We have hit the time of immortality whether you want it or not. If you are or have been submitting your likeness and content to the internet there is a swarth of data to recreate your likeness and persona just "good enough".
In 2023 I can spin up a chatbot, train video, train audio, and have a realtime conversation with "you". Where will we be in 10, 20, XXX years? Your likeness will be and is being trained so that your offspring can pay to "re-live" your moments with "you" in AR.
Have that conversation with a long lost loved one you never had before. See how things may have turned out if you made the other decision. Act as a pin cushion voodoo doll for your enemies. It is a scary and mind-numbing thought.
And there is nothing you or any of us can do about it. I'll repeat - there is NOTHING you can do about it.
Digital Immortality is real. You may keep your pictures off the Facebooks of the world, but a photo ID and record of you exists somewhere. See you in the future. 😉
Photobucket was down this morning so I had to use Flicker to upload the photos of the rare Neopets items I'm selling. Hit me up on Friendster or Orkut and I'll send over a link so you can see them.
The next steps to “weaponize” DM metadata sniffing would be for an actor to take the data and dump it into a database to perform graph relationship mapping and track user meta updates over time to track historical changes per key over time. See who knows who and likes to talk. Do they send short messages or long ones? Can we interpret anything based on the encrypted length - padding?
DMs are the same as someone seeing you in public having dinner with someone else. They may not be able to hear the conversation, but they know that you met. The best course of action is to use burner or pseudo anonymous keys if you need to communicate privately over DM. The next layer of protection would be to obfuscate your IP via VPN to prevent capture from the relay/an image in the DM/etc.
Monitoring tools + relays = intelligence feed. We can do better. We will do better.
