Sorry for the delayed posting. At 9am: Due to the hurricane, our main servers and several redundancies were adversely affected by the storms. This is causing a widespread, but expectedly short-lived outage on OCEAN. While this is our first outage on the pool of any kind, outages, however small or short, are unacceptable. Without revealing the details of our security profile, the chances of this happening were astronomically low, but non-zero. Even that is too high, so we will work to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Please ensure your own backups and redundancies are in place accordingly. We’ll have further updates when we have more information.

BREAKING: Bitcoin mining centralization. OCEAN reaches 56% of unique miners receiving newly generated coins. Our latest block paid out 50 unique Bitcoin addresses from the coinbase, meaning 50 people received bitcoins directly from Bitcoin itself, not from a middle man. Over the past six months, 174 addresses have received bitcoin payouts direct from the blockchain. 97 of these were miners mining on OCEAN. This is the way. It's time for Lightning⚡️ and it's time for BOLT12🔩 As of today, OCEAN miners can attach a BOLT12 offer to their #Bitcoin address and get paid out over Lightning! BOLT12 offers allow us to request multiple invoices for any amount while only requiring the miner to set things up once. Miners simply sign a message containing the offer using the private key associated with their Bitcoin address. Using BOLT12 also allows us to prove to the world that a payment was made, the size of the payment, the node to which it was paid, and that it was paid by us. This means we can continue to offer fully transparent and verifiable pooled mining while no longer being restricted by the base layer! Using the Bitcoin stack to its fullest is how we eliminate the need for trust and bring sovereignty to mining.
