So when a bank loans money, it is essentially created from nothing as an entry in a database. But the interest owed is not created. So the interest on the debt must be obtained via new debt (not necessarily by the borrower). So, it seems lower interest rates would lessen the need for growth (more loans). But lower interest rates generally result in increased demand for loans (so more growth).
