If something like Trump speaking at the largest bitcoin conference didn't happen this year it would have happened at some point in the future. Maybe a different guy but it was bound to happen. Just like the ETFs were bound to happen. I swear some of the takes on this stuff show a serious lack of critical thinking. A narrow focus on one's own beliefs without considering the society we live in. As bitcoin rises in market price it attracts more people. Most people are statists. Those that hold bitcoin have more wealth an with wealth comes influence. These things attract politicians. Politicians seek the support of those with power and money. We know we don't need the state or politicians but that will not stop what is happening. See it for what it is. The new phase of bitcoin's slow takeover of everything. It isn't gonna be neat and clean and ideologically pure. All that said. I'm not changing what I'm doing or what I believe but my head is not in the sand. Not gonna waste time being mad at statists for being what they are.

Appoint bitcoin and crypto advisory counsel staffed by people that love the industry 7. Order treasury and other departments to end CBDC plans. No CBDC while he is president 8. Defend the right to self custody. 9. Protect freedom, property rights, and privacy 10. Create framework for stable coins to continue to establish the dominance of the US dollar 11. Keep 100% of bitcoin the government currently holds. No more selling by government agencies. 12. Commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht to time served. You can take these promises for what they are worth. It isn't much but I will say this. I've been paying attention to politics for about 30 years. Trump probably kept more promises (key ones) than any other guy I can recall. Clearly he's pandering. I know he's been consulted by Vivek Ramaswamy and many others about bitcoin and crypto. His words are not the thing to care about here. Nor is the man important. What is important is that he feels the need to make these promises. Bitcoiners can no longer be ignored by these criminals. They feel the need to take a stance. Just like you shouldn't get your religion from the state. You shouldn't put your faith in people that can make bold promises with little consequence for breaking it. Bitcoin is designed to make these guys less important. This is one step down that road. Clearly Trump doesn't understand bitcoin. "Bitcoin is not threatening the dollar. The behavior of the government is threatening bitcoin." But that's OK. This is just a part of the journey we are all on. Just don't fall for this trick. Vote or don't vote. I don't care. But realize that bitcoin fixes this. Trump doesn't fix bitcoin. I welcome most of these promises he has made. I hope he keeps them.

Many bitcoiners are excited about the promises Trump is making. Just as many get excited about promises made by all politicians. Then, these same politicians in a few years use fear of their promises being broken to get your vote. Every 4 years the country is "in danger" if one party loses or wins. Its so absurd. We win by making governments obsolete. By making politicians obsolete. We are a long way from doing that.

It matters that Trump felt it necessary to come to this event. When a group of people become powerful they attract the attention of these demagogues. I think many in bitcoin get this subtlety. Some are still bought into voting and the system. Ignore them. Do not despair. This is a good day for bitcoin regardless of who is speaking. The headline is bitcoin can not be ignored. They have to fight or make promises. Don't trust this clown, of course. The more people that start holding bitcoin, the more rare people like us will be.

Both parties are morally bankrupt but the nonsense around Jan 6 is pretty absurd and instructive. Rep. Massie questions the FBI director about the claim Biden makes about gallows being constructed to hang VP Pence. You can say Trump is a liar. That's true, but you lose a ton of credibility when you lie over and over again. They do not care and if you are listening solely to either of these parties you are being deceived. There was no insurrection. There was a protest that has been amplified for political gain. These Trump supporters foolishly played their role and many have paid for it dearly.
