Ok interesting finding now
I queried 345 relays, I could succesfully connect to 258 and I found my follows in 134 but
Yesterday I made one change in my follows by adding 1 person just to see how it propagates and I also added this relay that rebroadcasts stuff wss://nostr.mutinywallet.com
97 of the relays that had my profile (137) got updated with my most current follows
#[0] gave me that suggestion.. Hey Tony, it was not 200 but it was still 97 in total that got updated with your relay
Lots of apocalyptic scenarios out there but here is a tip. If any of those materialize, your bitcoins in an exchange may disappear
Remember.. self custody is the thing that makes the difference
now that my query finished.. and after querying 349 relays, I found my "contacts" in 129 relays!.. clearly I never connected to that many.. so who did rebroadcast my contacts? I may understand someone rebroadcasting my notes but how my contacts get broadcasted?
From the 129 relays.. you can see that only 16! had the latest version. and then many other relays have some outdated version. this means that if for whatever reason I connect to those relates with a fresh connection without being connected to a relay that has the latest version then that connection may pull the older one and republish
That happened at some point where I lost almost all my contacts.. probably that point where you see only 33 and then gradually updating it

If I run a query over relays checking Events kind=3 to extract the people I follow you will see that some relays are not storing the latest version of it. In some cases because I might have disconnected from them and in some others I never connected but they didn't get the update
Then some of the clients are collecting this data to count for instance my follows. If they got an incorrect version they may then reproduce a different number... plus some clients are also running their own heuristics to remove bots etc
bear in mind that if I'm connected only to relays that believe I have 230 follows this is what they'll show.. each relay only stores 1 copy .. as their "last seen version"

just to confirm. If I Zap you with a comment from #[0] then the other would see it.. But if I put the note in #[1] is not guaranteed the other will see the comment?
Not typically my preferred podcast for a reason you may all know :).
But... this interview was good to understand Balaji's point of view.
Europe forces all pages to put so many cookies when you load a website and then you have regulators in the US that are allowing banks to hide their insolvency in a footnote - Balaji
